V-6 Headers. Worth it, or not? Opinions Please.
I am rebuilding my 88 4Runner engine. It is the first year of the 3.0 V-6. 3VZE
Are headers a good option?
Does anyone have any used or new ones for sale?
Thanks,
John.

honestly, no. if you have any local junkyards and some mechanical know-how, you could swap in a 3.4l from the newer 4runners or tacomas for roughly the same price and frustration as headers. if its a last resort, the headers do offer an improvement, but are one heck of a pain to install. check some write-ups here to get an idea.

Headers
I have a hard time believing I can find a 3.4 engine for the same price as a set of headers. Don't forget the computer and harness too. The 3.4 is not just a simle drop in swap.
As for header installation, I think I will have a slightly easier time because of the 3 inch body lift on my 4Runner.
I was thinking with a mild cam upgrade, K+N air, mild intake porting, headers and exhaust, my rebuild should make an improvment over stock.

I think he means for the price of a rebuild you could get a 3.4 and the harness and the computer. Just depends on how far you are with the rebuild i guess. Headers will add maybe 15 horsepower. Depends on weither or not the cost is worth it to you.
