Wow this thread took off and I missed it all.

Folks, thanks for the leads on pricing for the ARB's. I really appreciate it.

sdastg1: cool on getting a shop to do it. I'm looking to do as much of it as I can myself, though I have it on good authority that I should let someone else handle the alignment of the ring/pinion and the last time I checked, I don't have a hydraulic press.

Pics abound of course when it all happens - unless I'm swearing too much as I drop the diff on my foot.

LOL - You know Otter?
I've never met him in person, but I've seen a lot of his work and talked to him about a rear bumper on a few occasions. He spends a lot of time at Paragon, so I know him through the Paragon board. He does some damn fine work.

So, fwiw, I just got off the phone with one of the more recommended guys in the area, Randy's Ring and Pinion (http://www.ringpinion.com). They quoted $470 and 2 days if I brought them the housing and the ARB kit. Hmmm... Guessing at their shop rates, it looks like they're quoting about 7 1/2 hours. Seems like a lot of time.

I have to go read this write-up (http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/4Runne...ifs_airlocker/) a bit more and see just what it is that I don't think I have the tools to do...

update... (sorry for the quasi-hijack, I'll stop after this)

I just found this thread:
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/arb-air-locker-installed-pics-30495/

I'm feeling a LOT better about doing it myself.

Well now Im confused and angry @ everyone on this board. I am paying $3300 for front and rear lockers w/ new gears installed. Now there is a place next door in Harrisburg who knows Toyot's doing it cheaper, I aked for reccomendations a month ago.
Rant over: Im just nervous abpit the Jeep guy install. I got my 3 magic switches installed last weekend w/ compressor and am now waiting for gears and lockers to be installed.
What the H dawgs is Penncy that close to Ga.

I remmeber you asking ... sorry bud .. I just found the guy like 2 days ago, and that was through a local board. Yotatech is good for general knowledge, but you need to hit the local boards for where to get stuff put in, go wheeling, etc.

OK, so do you have any local boards to reccomend in the Eastern Pa. New England area. I found Yotatech through 4x4wire and I found that by accident. Please help.
If the guy Im currently using doesnt come through w/ an install date soon I may give this guy a call.
Do you think he would install product bought from somewhere else?

Thanks,
AG

I bought mine from somewhere else ... unless you want to spend $3300 I would seriously give him a call. You'll start laughing hysterically when he tells you his price compared to what you were going to pay.

He was really accomadting too, he said if I wanted to come up on saterday that was fine too, b/c it was a 3 hour drive for me.

everyone better tell him I sent ya!

I told him you sent me. I had a hard time pronouncing "SDASTG1" though.

His prices are nice. I think for tax purposes, bringing him the equipment makes more sense - especially since he's willing to do it.

If he was to supply the lockers/gears/install kit and labor, it would be around $2500 tax included. I can shave another $300 off that buy bringing the parts in. That does not include the cost of the rear 3rd I've yet to locate.

Then I still have my factory 4.88 3rds to sell too...

It also helps that I have a buddy to take the 3rds to him and pick them up (commutes from Pgh to Harrisburg weekly) and someone who works as a tech in a garage to guide/help me through the 3rd's swapping (DMG from POR).

Now I guess I need to find a place for that pig of a compressor (Extremeaire) and air tank (need to get)

its Shahzad .. you think with Brian (waskilliwabbbitt) poking fun at me enough everyone would know it by now.

but yeah well see how it goes

as far as local boards .. I know the Pa TTORA is pretty active, from there you can find some more. I know on the maryland creepers board there ar e alot of Pa folks as well. I usually check VaTTORA as well .. they usually have a trip somewhere or other.

EDIT: he actually told me on the phone that he is a small operation and that he could not match prices of some of his larger competitors, and that he had no problem putting in others parts

I look forward to updates on this thread as they come.

Come on Mike, If I swapped both my front and rears when I got my gears and lockers just me with no extra helpers hands you can do it. it's really quite straight forward and simple, just time consuming. the hardest part for me was the break-in period, I wanted so bad to get right offroad with it but it took me a week or so to break-in and that was pushing it.

Check out the Paragon board. It's mostly northern NJ/PA/Central NY, but they know all the best shops in the area. The board isn't terribly active, but they really know their stuff. Most of them will recommend Otter for fab work or OK4wd for installs (gears, lockers, etc).

I bought mine off of Ebay for 495.00... And my compressor for 180.00 both brand new. ARB will place items on Ebay they use at shows, and returns for wrong parts being shipped. If you watch Ebay long enough you can catch a great deal.... One more cool thing is sometimes if you belong to a offroad club you can find people to help you out with the install. I paid a guy 100.00 to install mine.... And Yes he works for a local off road shop and puts 2-3 lockers in a day. Check out Ebay.... I have 775.00 in my rear locker, compressor, install.
