A cheap pitman arm puller from HF modified to accept a 1.75" opening will do it.

You can do it pretty easily with a harbor freight 3-jaw puller too, though mine has been modified to make it alot stronger. I did this with my harbor freight 3-jaw puller and it went like butter.

You could also free/rent a ball joint press from Autozone. It's a bit of a PITA, though. Those things really don't want to move.

used a combination of a screw type ball joint press and an air hammer for some extra mojo, works good, better yet find a buddy with a shop press, i used a 12 ton and they where still a hard press, you will need the ball joint adapters from the screw type press to use as receivers on the bottle jack press other wise you can damage stuff trying to use sockets and bearing bits.

I purchased a Harbor Freight Ball Joint Seperator and it was piece of cake. May take a couple of whacks with a heavy hammer, but it should just pop right out.

There's taking the shaft out of the upper arm, which is fairly easy.

Then there's pressing the base of the ball joint out of the steering knuckle/upright, which is a lot more difficult.
