two questions

1. I have an 04 V6 4runner. There is a skid plate that covers the oil pan. There is a disc directly under the oil pan. I can pry one end off with a screwdriver but it does not come out. I am afraid to apply much pressure. Is there a trick to getting this off?
2. My truck has 17 inch wheels. They came factory installed. I have checked my odometer by measuring miles against interstate mile markers. I come up short. Does the factory recalibrate the odo when they option the 17 inch wheels?

Why would they do that? They would only change it if the outside diameter was different.

I can't help you with the oil pan, but you could get them to check your speed-o the next time you take it in. Though... if you think about it... its better than being the other way around where you would be putting more miles on your car than less... hmmm

First off, welcome aboard and congratz on your new 04 4runner I bet you're loving every sec of that drive!

1. > Just pry the plastic oval disc as it is rubber. The first time is abit hard but you'll notice that it is easy to remove. A good ol flathead should do the trick
2. > How much are you short? Could it be that the mile markers are not to an exact science? I highly doubt that Toyota would make that kind of error. If you want, you can ask your dealer to check it out next time they're there though. If you don't have the sport and it came w/ 17's then maybe it is wrong? I'm not sure but I know my sr5 came w/ 16's so if you have a sr5 w/ 17's I'm sure you'll get some incorrect reading. But then again, I'd be pretty happy to have my odo read less as I drive too much anyway

The reading is 5 miles short per 100. The wheels were an option. It is not a big deal but I am always curious. Thanks for the info on the disc. It feels like it is going to break if I pry too hard but I will give it another try. Thanks again...
