I couldn't find a good answer with my search, so here goes:

I was working on my truck trailer plug today and ended up breaking off the ground piece. The plug really needed replacing anyway, so I went ahead and cut it off and began to splice on an extra connector my friend gave me. The only problem is my truck has 5 wires going into the original plug and the replacement only has 4-2 turn signal, 1 for running lights, and a ground. Apparently the 5th wire on the original plug is for the brake lights. I wired it up and have everything but brake lights since the 5th wire on the truck has nothing to splice into.

How do I make this work? Is my only option to get a connector with 5 wires?

 

I recently had to change out my connector because of other reasons(utility trailer lights not recieving correct "signals" from truck)...

I found that vehicles like ours(with seperate amber turn signals) reqire a 5 to 4 converter that converts the truck's 5 wires to a standard 4 wire trailer setup.

Most auto stores and walmarts will have them for around $12 bucks.

I have been to Wal-Mart and Advance Auto Parts and neither one have them. I was wondering if it was specific to Toyota, but that makes me feel better knowing there is such a thing.

I'm going by U-Haul today. I am sure they would have one.

Hmmm.
It's not a Toyota part and walmart must have just been out of stock or something.

If their are any 0'reily's auto parts stores in your area that's where I got mine...

Ebay also has a few last time I checked so if you can't find anything local then check the web.

Yeah U-haul has some nice converter/plug sets with LED lights built into the plug. About $16 IIRC.

 

Yep, I bought one at U-Haul and it has the LED lights on it. It was $16.00 + tax-more than I wanted to pay, but it is a nice one. I will wire it up today. I plan on moving this weekend, so I need my trailer lights to be working.
