FYI The symptom that I'm experienceing is; when going up long steep hills at speed 60-70 miles per hour when the truck downshifts out of O.D. it will shudder until I press the accelerator further and make the transmission downshift or lift off the accelerator for a second until the shutter stops. This is a intermittent problem. Thanks for any info.

 

What year is it and have you tried driving with it out of O/D (pushing the button on the shifter to lock it out) to see if the problem doesn't occur.

The 01-02 runners seem to have more problems with their O/D in the transmission going out causing a shuttering before total failure.

 

Sounds like the gear which engages the OD is going. But then again, I just play a mechanic on the internet.

If it is, I would never pay for a tranny to be rebuilt. Just get another low mileage unit and keep on trucking.

 

Is there a lot of noise with this shudder?

 

I had this happen with my Toyota camry wagon. I thought it was an engine out of tune. Sure enough-bad tranny.

Does it happen once the transmission heats up or all the time.

You may be hunting for a good used tranny.
