Traction Control

Hey guys, I am new here and still pretty new to the 4runner. I bought my 2001 SR5 back in May 2007. Not too long ago I noticed that my check engine light came on along with the TRAC OFF and VSC TRAC lights. When you press the TRAC OFF button on the dash it does nothing. I took it to the parts store in town and all their computer would read is Bank 1 system to lean. The truck drives fine and feels no different but as long as those lights are on it wont pass the North Carolina inspections. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be or have suggestions on how to cure the problem with out getting my wallet raped by Toyota?

No I haven't I thought about it for the check engine light but would that mess with the Traction and Vehicle Skid Control as well?

If the Check Engine Light is on the Trac and VSC lights come on too. Fix the problem that is causing the Check Engine Light and the others should go away.

Ok Thanks I'll give it a try I just wouldn't have thought that something not related to Traction control would cause those light to come on much less disable the trac off button on the dash but I have seen cars do stranger things before.

x2 on what eric-the-red said. All the trac lights come on when the check engine light comes on...even if it's not trac related.

Driving home the other night, my check engine light came on first, shortly followed by all my trac/abs lights. Truck still ran fine, so to find out what was going on, I stopped by my local auto parts store for them to pull the code. Turns out, I didn't screw my gas cap all the way on at my last fill up . I screwed it on tighter and the code disappeared. That was the first time that has ever happened to me, but boy did I feel stupid.

Just goes to show you that even something simple as not having a tight gas cap can throw on all the warning lights.

you might check youre bank 1 oxegen sensor. I have the same truck 01 as you.One day the check engine light came on as well as the VSC light. At 92k miles the O2 sensor went. And that disabled the VSC control.
