I got one of these a month ago. Imagine my delight and surprise that they wanted to take my old '94 in trade for nice, shiny, new '04? Yeah, Right. I was at the dealer a few days later to get some parts and one of the salesmen ask if I had gotten one of the notices. He said they send them to anyone who has bought a car or had service at the dealer. And to think I had a new 4Runner already picked out.

I'd like to see what kind of trade in value I'd get for my 4runner

On a serious note though. There are times where the mfg's will search for older vehicles of their own for quality inspections. I have a close friend in the industry that works in conjunction w/ the mfg's and they have personally purchased vehicles from private party solely to strip it down to test their own vehicles to see the condition of it. Ofcourse these vehicles were generations old but it still does happen. So you never know. And the pp were rewarded nicely w/ a new vehicle btw. (don't know the exact details but I know it does happen).

But most of the time, the dealer is just out there to make more $$.

Now I'll agree with you there. A friend of my had a yellow Defender 90. The dealer called him up because a customer wanted one, but I guess they didn't make them anymore or something. He sold it back to the dealer. He didn't even buy a car from them. Apparently, the buyer was willing to pay, because it was 4 years old, and had some good mileage on it. I can't remember what they gave him, but I recall it was an offer he could not pass on.

Imagine that?! (Yes, she really is blonde...) I tried to tell her but they just don't listen... :pat:

Now that I have one, I will never part with it.
Same here. Agree with you on the new body style. The 3rd gen is the last of the mohicans.

You should go in their and after they quote you all the numbers be like I don't know I've gotten offers from other dealers, mix it up and tell them that GM or Ford made you an offer that you just can't refuse

I've gotten letters like this but never really did anything about it but I've had a friend that has actually done this deal with an Acura TL and he made out, he bought a 2000 TL and just for the hell of it he went back to the dealer and traded the car for a TL-S and to get into the new car was only $2000, so after almost 2 years his only expense was gas and insurance, he's now considering a trade into a new TL.
