Carquest and NAPA re-mans are fine. They will not have factory boots but will be good joints.

You will turn your old axle in for a core.

I thought once the CV joint starts clicking, it means that permanent damage is being done. Mine clicks when in 4WD and seems to bind slightly in 2WD when steering at slow speed. I'm assuming it's spent but you are leading me to believe it's just dry. I did lose some of the grease out of it after replacing the boots. Maybe I don't need to replace the entire assembly but just need to repack the joint?
