I would like to get 2.5-3" spacers which mounts ON top of the upper strut coil support plate and does not affect the actual spring rate/does not increase pre-load.

Bamachem on this board makes/sells 3/8" polyurethane pucks that go on top of the coilovers. 2 of them is around 1" of lift but you'll also need extended studs from a company like RevTek.

 

I thought Andy quit making those and Steve was the one who sold them?

So, those top plate spacers seems to be same at 4Runner/Tacoma/Tundra/Sequia/FJ Cruiser.

Cornfeds and Daystar makes more preload to spring. I do not like to get stiffer suspension. Differential drop + limit straps = no problem, I think.

 

If you do a 3" top plate lift I would think that it would be VERY easy to overextend the CV as top plates add droop equal to their lift... I put a .75" on mine and love it.

Cornfed uses both.. I have his complete 2" lift, machined down to 1.75". He uses a 1" spring spacer, so small it wont effect the ride.. And a 1" top plate, that I had him machine down to what I wanted.

 

yeah i remember reading on here that anything more than 2 bamachem spacers (3/4" of spacer for about 1" of lift) on top of the strut would cause a problem.

 

You are right. That is why I mentioned limit straps. With those I could adjust how deep it drops, to avoid problems.

Maybe I make mild suspension spacer lift + mild body lift... Maybe best solution.

 

The combo will be the best way to get larger tires... Say a 1" top plate and a 1" BL from 4crawler.com that would get you more travel, OEM ride and 2" more room for tires

I know front spacers will, but how about rear spacers? Is the spring end diameter same?

 

Just an idea I'll throw out there if you want a thickness that's not commercially available: If you have a drill press (or even a Dremel tool), you can make strut spacers in less than an hour in any thickness you want. It's really not difficult, and the materials cost less than $15/sheet that yields 4 spacers. The studs are wheel studs for a Honda ATV that you can get for ~$4/each (need 6). I have the part number written down somewhere...

A friend of mine cranked out the spacers we're using in less than 20 min. They fit perfectly and cost ~$6/pair to make.

Go to McMaster-Carr for the HPDE sheets. They come in a variety of thicknesses (1/4" - 5") and numerous grades of plastic.

PM me if you want the details for the diameter of the homemade spacers...

 

Okay. I installed Daystar 1.25" top plate spacers, they lifted the front suspension about 1.75". Then I made 2" bodylift.

I think it looks cool now w/33x12.50R17:

Man I wish they sold MiniCruisers in the USA. It would be much better than the RAV4's.

Wheels are Dotz Luxor, size 8x17", offset 0. I don´t have measured backspace.
