Too Tall!

Has anybody lowered there drivers seat? I'm 6'4" and my head almost hits the Sunroof. I was thinking I could have some brackets fabricated--but not sure if seat can drop lower. Any ideas?

You might be able to fab something or at least get ideas from the 2nd gen seats. They are lower (floor to seat dimension is less) than the 3rd gen.

My 2nd gen seats don't really have brackets, they bolt pretty much directly to the floor...the bracket doesn't really raise the seat any....it's a real comfy seat, though...maybe you could switch yours out?

Frosty, you're too #*%@ tall. I think the Tacomas have a seat mount similar to the 2nd gen 4Runners. Just another option for you..... I think you will have to spend some time scouring salvage yards, see what will really work.
You could also try to be a little shorter.

Yea, the 3rd gen seats sit kindof high.. Im like 5 10-11 and my head isnt far from the roof. Im sure you have the seat knob adjusted down as far as it can go... Well you could always open the sunroof... hehe

Ever see the picture of Kareem Abdul Jamaar in a VW Bug? He took the front seat out and sat in the rear to drive.

You, on the other hand, my need to look into aftermarket seats. I am 6' and I come pretty close to the headliner myself.

I'm 5'11" and will be raising the rear of my seats about an inch. Roger brown has a seat lift kit but at something like $15 I'll go try getting longer bolts and washers to see if I really like it. I hate sitting so low in my truck - so obviously these seats would be awesome for you.

I am 6'5"

In my 95 with no sunroof, the fit is fine as long as I don't sit all the way straight.

In my bro's 97 with a moonroof, I either hit my head on the piece that covers the roof, or rub my head on the edge of the moonroof opening.

My bro is 6'1" with long hair and gets his hair caught in the moonroof, but does not hit his head. He is more legs, I am more torso.

I don't think there is a really good way if any to do this in a 3rd gen. Might try bending out the rear edge to gain some room might be worth a go.

___Any idea where to get these?--I was thinking maybe a Lexus ES300 seat might fit from around a 97 after you mentioned a different seat--any ideas where to pick used seats up cheap?

Thanks for the ideas......

You can also do an old IASCA trick that is designed to help the soundstage - fabricate brackets that move the seat back.

You could also just turn you hat backwards, and let the seat recline to about 40degrees, and drive like that! I do that from time to time when I want to get weird looks.....lol

Who and where is "Roger Brown" ? Also, has anyone been able to find any aftermarket power seat options for the 4Runner?

Too Tall

I ,m 6=3 and have a 1986 turbo xcab 5speed, with sunroof. Similiar problem. I took out one spring and saw that it had no give whatsoever. I then went to home depot and matched the spring very closely but with one that had some "spring". One has to replace all eight in my case, and that got me 2 inches lower, but now i feel short. Darn cant win. The springs in the seating harness is what i,m talking about

Ha, I'm 6ft 8in with a 3G and a sunroof.... I don't want to hear it... I can't have the sunroof cover closed. Its open all the time. I also have to keep the seat pretty far back. I guess I have just gotten used to it.. PM me if you ever find something!!!!

Hey I am 6'9"

I drive a 1st generation and I fits me fine with the seat reclined a little.
It could be worse, this could be the 70's and have no reclining seats.

Some people are tall in their legs and some in their torsos. At 6-3 I have a tall torso so thats why my head hits the roof. I was going to cut and lower the bracket with welding but thought that would pose a legal question if I sold the truck but probably not. The spring thing worked for me. Having the sunroof doesnt help either but who can be chosey when buying a mint used truck. LOL
