I was just curious. I have a 94 4runner v6. I had just set the idle to 750 rpm's. Then I set the timing to where it should be according to what I have read through the fourms which is 10 Degrees with the te1 and e1 jumped. A previous owner decided I did not need the VECI sticker, as it is no where to be found under the hood. So I am waiting for one from a dealer, so I can besure what my trucka should be set at. Anyway the Timing was set at 15 degrees and the truck runs good, Im just trying to get the best Gas Mileage I can out of her. I set it to 10 and was getting some crappy responce in the lower RPMs, so I set it back, Now I am curious how far your timings are advanced?

Right now I have mine set at 8 degrees. I've got some pinging issues I'm trying to figure out and it doesn't ping as much at 8. However, when I get the pinging solved, I'm probably going to set it around 12. As far as the "factory" settings go, the idle should be at 800 and timing at 10 degrees.

Hey, I have a 94-runner and the sticker under the hood states 10 degrees BTDC. Previously the timing was way off due to a malfunctioning throttle positioning sensor and it seemed to have a lot of power, now with the TPS reset and timing set correctly it pings a little and has slightly less power(may still be due to the TPS as I havent replaced it yet). Either way the correct setting should be 10degrees BTDC. Hope this helps!

yeah it says 10 degrees BTDC in my manual as well ,but some here have said that they advance it a bit ,im not sure what the effect of this is ,doe's it improve response ?
What about Fuel consumtion,I assume its get worse,or am i wrong.???

 

Advancing your timing usually results in better performance, and an increase in fuel mileage. The retarding is for emissions, not performance or mileage.

15 degrees advance, 5 degrees over stock, is pretty far, and you start running the risk of preignotion and the resulting engine damage. If you're running high octane fuel, this helps mitigate the enthusiastic advance.

But, you may not be doing the jumpering you think you're doing. When you connect to the jumper, the engine should fall down on rpms and run differently within a second or two. You should also see a marked change in timing using a timing light. If you don't see that happening, you've got a fault code that is preventing the computer from responding to the jumpering. So in that case, the timing isn't very far advanced at all (I think it sits at around 12 degrees unjumpered).

 

just to clarify your wording ,by increase you mean more miles per tank or less.?
