Timing belt came without any marks!
Hey guys I’m doing a timing belt on my 5vzfe and I got a timing belt water pump kit off Amazon but upon pulling out the kit and looking at everything the timing belt has no marks on it whatsoever!
should I just line up the cams and woodruff marks and then massage the timing belt on from the drivers side cam and continue moving clockwise through the rest of the pulleys and then call it good?
I don’t want to pull the pin on the tensioner and then have it be off… I have a c-clamp so I can reuse it but I’d rather just do ˟˟˟˟ right the first go around
side note
I’m Having a hard time trusting that my suggested method will work. And I definitely don’t want to bolt it all up and then have the timing be off.
help! please and thank you!
y’all r great

First off, timing belts never used to come with marks. The IMPORTANT marks are the ones on the cam and crank pulleys (and I don't mean the harmonic balancer, that comes later)
It is always best to line up all of the timing marks before you ever remove the belt so you can see how close the marks line up (sometimes they look like they are off a half tooth one way or the other.
set your crank pulley to line up the mark with the matching mark on the front of the oil pump housing, put the belt around the crank pulley and pull it up to the driver side cam pulley making sure it is tight when the cam pulley mark aligns with the matching mark on the tin backing plate.
Then down and around the water pump pulley and up to the passenger cam pulley making sure it is tight when the marks line up and make sure nothing else moved. then put it around the tensioner and pull the pin.
Hand crank the engine clockwise two full turns and check the marks again. this is where the marks on the belt will mess with you, they only line up when first installed and won't line up again for MANY rotations. this evens out wear patterns in the belt by not hitting the same teeth every time.
After you have done this much put the timing covers back on (with the marks still lined up at TDC) and put the harmonic balancer on and see how the timing mark lines up on the timing cover. the outer ring can become separated from the inner part and the mark will walk around not lining up properly.
That last part is mostly for 3VZ owners since your 5VZ doesn't have a distributor that needs to be adjusted for proper timing but if you ever try to check timing or line the engine up on TDC later for any reason it will help.
