timing for 99 4runner V6
need help...i have a 99 4runner sr5 v6 3.4l i did a water pump change and timing belt change... now ive been told by a toyota mechanic that when installin a timing belt that the camshaft sprocket timing mark should be ever so slghtly to the right and then in a haynes book it says that the camshaft sprocket timing mark should be straight up...with that the bottom sprocket is at zero and piston 1 is at TDC....what is the correct way!?? please help

Put it all to TDC use two clamps while installing the belt to the cam sprockets to hold them in place and get the belt on the crank sprocket, pull the pin on the tensioner and continue

Dont look at the marks on the timing cover. The marks on the gears should be straight up with the crank at tdc. It will be obvious if they are off 1 tooth either way
