my 4runner has about 85,000 miles on it and got the fuel filter, plugs, and new brake shoes about a year ago.

i also got my oil changed to mobil 1 synthetic about 1,000 miles ago.

anything else i should be doing around this mileage?

 

change the diff fluids?

one is for changing to synthetic (or both are) and one is with manual tranny, but if all you want is diffs, then take a look at em

 

yes its simple, easier than an oil change. just get a fluid pump and the right gear oil

You might also want to get a new PCV, There is alot you can do Flush the Transmisson, Flush the Radiator, just keep up with your sevice Records and do whats needed at the normal intervals.

 

i took the gear oil to advance auto and they took it and recycled it...


and as for using a hand pump...i dont really think its necessary...alteast i didnt use one...prolly cuz the one i bought was horrible...

 

What I do is drain it into an old Plastic jug and take it to a Oil Change place, they take the used oil for free.

 

I had to use a hand pump for the Front Diff. Every other gear box I didnt have to use one.

yeah, thats totally a good idea, just to let them take care of the old fluid (sarcasm) (i did same, and it was a waste of money)

I did that when I got mine at 65,000 miles, let the dealer do it, they were really nice and charged me only about 350 for the "60,000" mile service, which was front and rear diff fluids, transfer case, an oil change, radiator flush that I didnt want, a tranny flush, and lube.

but honestly, I did them again recently around 80,000 due to water crossing (stuck deep). The rear is easy, you pull plug, drain, and put in new, front same, except putting in should use a small hand pump $5... total cost for me to do, about $20-25 or so.... so unless you have real reasons, like no tools at all to be able to use, or no time, or something, the old fluid is a non issue, just pour into empty containers that had new oil, or into an empty milk jug, and return to wherever you bought the fluid (autozone/advance/pep boys etc)

 

im just not sure whats going to happen when i change mine it has 145k on the original fluid

 

Wow, That Fluid is got to be BLACK, change it out asap.
