Hey its almost summer and ive come a long way in the body work of my 4runner. the only thing left to do the rear quarter panels. i still have to prime the hood and doors and roof. so my question is what color do you guys think i should paint it?

i like flat black which is the color of the primer so thats a choice. also i can zebra stripe it . i dont want a flashy color (yeah but ill zebra stripe it )

and camo is only sweet if you do a good job...
charcoal gray would be awesome....you should line-x the whole truck..im gonna do mine i think its gonna be my next mod after my new stereo

Next year, when I plan my body rebuild on my 1st gen, I'm definitely looking to paint it a forest green, similar to the dark green on 3rd gens. I would especially recommend a forest green if you have a tan interior. Mine is red w/tan now so green or black is pretty much the best option.

i agree with this, i dont want to add weight, and the money thing... i have better ways to spend that money.

as for the zebra thing, i dont think it looks lame or anything. although i have seen some people do a really crappy job but im confident me and my dad can pull it off. he majored in art and still does drawings for people.

another question... how does primer hold up in the weather? thats all thats on it now is primer... no paint. is it ok to leave it like this?

If you plan on using it offroad, but still sort of want it to look like you did all that body work for a reason, I vote for original Toyota Cream. You have to look for scratches on it and it is a classic Toyota color. Plus, unlike dark colors it won't show where you might have made mistakes in the body work. Make sure you get the actual factory color though. People that try to eyeball it tend to wind up with a range of baby ˟˟˟˟˟ yellows instead
As an aside, the worst mod I ever did to a Toyota was to spend $ on a paint job. Many moons ago, I had a really nice '83 longbed 4x4, Downey header and cam, big tires, lift kit, black center mods, SR5 package and a Glasstite shell. It started getting the classic rust spots so I took it down and had it cut out and touched up. After spending the $$, I got it home, went to put the top back on and scratched the paint. It was an instantaneous epiphany: putting a bunch of time and $ into painting a 4x4 is just plain stupid. It's just my opinion, but I'm right

Rustoleum flat black. I agree, stupid to spend $$$ on painting a trail rig. I spent $30 to paint mine and I can probably touch it up forever w/ what I have left.

leaving it primered is a bad idea.... primer acts like a sponge for the paint to make it stick better... it acts the same on water and dirt unless you seal it up. Leaving it just primered for too long will result in lots of rust.
