Ticking noise from the left side of my V6

Hello everyone. I am new to this site and new to Tacomas. I have a possible problem. I think I am getting blown off by the dealer. I have an 02 Tacoma with the v6 with 3,600 miles and it is making a ticking noise from the left valve cover area. If anyone has expierienced this problem or has any ideas please let me know. Thanks in advance!!!

My first suggestion would be a second opinion from a second dealer.
I have found that some dealers will give you a runaround, where
others are very good taking care of the customer.

The new dealer said that the noise may or may not be normal. The technician said that he wanted to investigate the noise a little further. I guess I see what happens when I leave it with them on Monday.

So far they said they have taken the valve cover off and inspected the valve train and camshaft and said they saw nothing abnormal. For some reason they have three fuel injectors on order and they are waiting for them to arrive. I hope this fixes it, but I have my doubts that that is the noise. I should know more tomorrow when the parts arrive.

02DBLCAB,

I also have an '02 Dbl. Cab V6 4WD TRD (11k miles) and a ticking sound from the drivers side valve cover area. I am anxious to hear what you find out about yours. Thanks, Scooter

The noise is ther when the engine is on and at normal operating temperature. If ther is excessive load on the engine then the noise is louder. I still have no answers from the dealer. They just keep on telling me how busy they are and that they hope they can get to it by the end of today.

Ok, here is whats going on now. I am still without a truck. They have replaced the three fuel injectors and double and triple checked the valve clearences and the tick is still there. At this point they are ordering in a head from Toyota. I would certainly hope that this will take care of it. I will let you all know in about a week.......hopefully.

02DBLCAB,

Did the dealer figure out your ticking noise problem?

Sorry for the delayed response time. I don't think they actually figured out what the problem was exactly, however, the noise is gone. They ended up replacing the cylinder head on the left side. If I were you Scooter, I would take my truck to the dealer as soon as possible.
