I just installed a K&N filter on my 97 with a 2.7L .Now I hear a ticking niose from the right side of the truck when accelarating .It`s usually noticeable when low rpm 1500 to 2000 . Could this be detonation?

 

Generally when you add a high flow air filter the AFM compensates too much fuel and it runs alot richer so I doubt it is detontaion that usually occurs from lack of fuel.

I would check your exhaust over it may have a leak somewhere like the manifold or attachment flanges.

 

Is this the filter charger kit or just a K&N filter still in the airfilter box? If it is the charger kit and you have the open breather element, you can expect some noise. I believe it even says so in the booklet/instructions that comes with the filter. You wind up with a straight shot to the plenum and you can hear the workings of the intake and valves more that way.
