throttle body 3.4
Howdy.
Spent a few years rebuilding 95 4R, and bought a copart 99, with a 3.4. Preemptively had the TB rebuilt (had visible gaps in plate) by someone in FL that was popular on ytech.
Had 4R going pretty good for 20K miles now, except a sticking throttle. Had a very reputable shop down in El Paso check my valve clearances last spring (?), no probs, because a rattle.
The routed the accel cable kind of goofy, so pulled top apart in Nov to fix "sticky". Seemed (?) to work for a few days, but now still does it. I checked the return spring action, and it looks okay. I had done that washer on shaft thing early in 24 (?) due to erratic idle. CO dealer mech showed me that shaft was loose, and moving it changed idle. Thought maybe my cruise control contraption was making it hang, but no, my 3rd world quality cable ball end had come off anyway. (At least I know why cruise wont work).
Since new TBs are made of Unobtainium, have been thinking about units on like ebay. Theres "new" ones listed for couple hunnert bux, gota be Chinesium, but am pretty leary of getting a used unit.
Any body have or know stories about the 'new' units?
TIA

So your TB has erratic idle and a sticking throttle plate or cable. If moving the throttle shaft causes idle to change it needs TB shaft seals replaced, never done it on a toyota TB just turbo mitsu's as they can't leak boost. Sounds like the cable routing was hanging you up and you got it sorted?, if not its possible upon rebuild they didn't align the throttle plate or even flipped it, hard to believe if someone knew what they where doing. Personally I'd go with used OEM and remove and clean up the IAC and reassemble, it will take a good drive and a few key cycles to adjust to the new components and idle normal again.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll look into the shaft seal things. Not sure where to start, but the term is a good place. Somewhat skeerd of used one (they're all 25 YO) and just getting same problem.
