Thoughts on Syn oil in gear/diff

99 4Runner, v6,5spd,...........havent changed gear oils, but took it off roading in some mucky mud/water, and most likely there is goop in the front/rear diffs. heard different things about cleaning them, and putting new oil in. Some said about spraying brake clean in them, to clean then, let new oil flow through, then once its clean oil comming out, cap it, and refill....let me know what you guys think...im new at all this, and i dont want to mess my truck up.

Definelty check your rear diff man - and if its got water check everything else and change them if necessary.
The rear diff is typically the first thing to suck up water - its pretty tough to get water in the front diff is the breather is real high and you would have probably sucked water into your intake before that.

Make sure you run the truck for a while to heat up the gear oil before checking it though.

You can get redline gear oil cheap and fast at http://www.myoilshop.com/
