thoughts on my spare tire solution

ok, so i have 265/75/16 mt/r's and i have a 265/70/16 spare tire thats a dueler H/T or something. whatever was stock.

instead of buying an expensive single mt/r, i was thinking about some other cheaper options, selling my current spare to offset some of this cost (it has 100% tread, has never touched pavement):

Dunlop Mud Rover
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....1=yes&place=69
I can get this locally for $100 mounted.

Kumho Venture series
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....1=yes&place=58
I can get this locally for $90 mounted.

Dunlop Radial Rover A/T
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e1=yes&place=2
I had these before my mt/r's. theyre decent and REALLY cheap.. like $80 mounted.

any thoughts? other ideas? I need something that will grip enough to get me off a trail and get me home on the highway if i cant get the tire repaired.. i dont want to drive an hr on the highway home with a wrong-size tire.

look for a used one on ebay... that'd be the cheapest option...

Lee,

For what's its worth my spare is the dunlop mud rover and have used them before on the trail with success.

I agree with Andy though, buy a used on on Ebay if you really want to save some bucks. If you don't have a matching spare (you have MTRs right?) then a used tire might not be a bad option.

It doesn't even have to be Ebay. I bought a used tire (33" BFG AT) with 80% tread and a new black rock crawler wheel, mounted for $75.00 at discount tire. get out the old fashioned phone book thingy and start calling your local tire shops. I have also picked up a set of good Trail tires for 100 at a used tire dealer..
