? for those with 4.30 gears and 33s
Just wanted to know if anyone with 4.30 stock gears noticed a big drop in gas mileage or power when they went to 33s or 285/75? Oh I guess I should say auto 3.4 also.

I'll bet you didn't. Your truck is actually travelling further with every tire rotation than it used to, and your odometer isn't accounting for it. I don't know how to make the conversion but I bet someone on here does. (or has a link)

i have 35's now up from the 33's in my previous post in this thread and 4.3's and i dont think i'll be re-gearing... i get 15 city and 18 highway and pull hills in 5th still going 75 on I-25. 4.10 will be worse though...

4.30 gears, 35s, I would say I get 15-17 city, 18-20 highway...I have to use a GPS to figure distances, the odometer reads a little off.
I drive like a grandma on acid so I'm usually crawling at a snails pace as I watch the grass grow beneath me.

...funny, I'm not quite sure what gears I'm running..anyone wanna help me figure this one out?? I've got a 97sr5 4x4 auto 3.4 and i haven't changed the gears.
I mean is this info related to the engine size, model, etc??
Thanks

LOL! I can see why.
It doesn't look like you have the e-locker which points to 4.10s. Although you do have the auto... Would that be 4.30? Did Toyota make an adjustment for autos? Hmmm...maybe not because of the 3.4's torque. I'm thinking you have the 4.10s.
How does it drive on your bigger tires?

So to regear properly i should go down to 4.30?
Turding around town it's great, on the freeway and hills it kills. I've pretty much lost passing speed unless od is off and it rides at 3000, it pulls good in that range.

If I had it to do over again I would have re geared to 4.88's...live and learn.

I run 33x1250's with 4.10's. I notice probably 1mpg difference in gas mileage which is normal for the extra drag from 10.5's to 12.5's. there isnt that much of a power difference, i used to drive my truck over Santiam pass here in Oregon every single weekend on the 33's-its one long steep uphill, and i never really had any power issues. I actually fried my diff and regeared it to 4.10 again, i kinda wish i had gone with 4.56 but its certainly not necessary and far more expensive.
