Again, I've found 35psi cold to be the best ride and control with the Dunflop AT20.

I'm still waiting for the Dueller A/T Revos to arrive.

? don't know what you mean.

All I was saying was there was one dude in particular I know used to hang out here who was a toyota tech that really knew his stuff. search for 3rd gen rear axle seal in this forum and you will find him, I believe his name is Jay, no it's not me even though I am J. also. This guy was one (maybe the only one) guy I ever conversed with who worked for Toyota that actually knew what he was talking about. I think he might have just gone away though for some reason. I was just saying, with a statement like "Do these shop guys at the dealership even take a High School auto tech class" sort of attacks the whole lot of them. I have to admit though I have seen alot of these guys doing things extremely unorthodox too.

No personal attack or harm intended. Just that there is a right and wrong way to check tire pressure. Putting air in a hot tire without measuring the psi is downright moronic. You pay 'professionals' to maintain your vehicle and then they jeapordize your safety by apathetically filling your tires up until they bulge.

The guy at the McDonalds drive through was probably more qualified to check my tire pressure than this 'professional' assistant helping with the oil change.

It would be like changing your oil and then refilling the engine with oil until it pours out the top. Must be full.

hehe, I must admit, that is one reason my wife is afraid to take it to the dealership. Even she knows.

I'm going to try that chalk test, that is a really great idea.
Don't put a lot of value in the chalk test. It really provides very little information regarding tire pressure. It is kind of like saying that you can check your alignment by taking your hands of the wheel. It just doesn't work that way.

The reason is that with a steel belted tire the tread section remains relatively flat over a wide range of pressure. Along with this, your tires change shape as they spin faster.

If you want to get a reasonable idea of the correct pressure you would need to measure the temperature of the tire.

Can someone with 17" rims tell me what pressure is listed on the door jam for 17" rims.
Thanks a million

My '03 also came with 17" wheels as a factory option. I have two door stickers with tire info, the original sticker is for 16"s but there is also a smaller sticker just above it which lists the specs and info for the 17"s. It calls for 32 psi. The tires I have, Brigstone HT Duellers list max pressure of 44 psi, and were filled to 37 from dealer. I like the way they handle, and will keep them at 37 for now.

Probably because all the manufacturers take a dim view of their personnel (even though he probably worked for a dealership) participating in any forums. There was a notice posted at the Honda dealership where I take my wife's car strongly discouraging dealership personnel from identifying themselves as Honda employees while visiting forums or newsgroups. This was from Honda Motors, not the dealership. The manufacturers are scared to death somone, acting as an agent, will say something that creates liability for them. Frankly, I'd want my good techs out there talking up the product and sharing the information so that when we go to a dealership that doesn't know what they are doing, we have some idea of what the problem might be. But, that's just my opinion.
