Thinking about going with a supercharger...
#21
I would say pass on it, save the dough for the Money Pit. Welcome to the Cruiser world.
To be honest with you, I would put the 4Runner back to stock or close to it. If you want to go fast sell the 4Runner, heck you HAVE an FJ-40 and buy a car that goes fast and gets good gas milage, heck you HAVE and FJ-40 that I hear does really well off-road.

Well, confirmed the price of 1805 shipped with the guys at Toyota autoparts. May spend twice that on fuel mods in the long run. Its only money, right? Also the time factor too- I barely have the time I want to get the FJ-40 built up, so do I really want to start a whole other project? Decisions....decisions....

i want one so bad... but really its too expensive for me to even think about it. 1800 for the charger, plus fuel upgrades, plus gas costs, plus install.
ugh. thats like what 3 grand if not more? the dealer quoted me charger with install for 3700. ridiculous. so id for sure jump on the awesome charger deal if i was to get one.

If it were me, I'd concentrate on the LC. Why? Because I like to 4-wheel. My 4Runner is used for both purposes. I use it to 4-wheel and to take highway trips in. The supercharger is nice on the highway, but can be a disadvantage off-road. When I tip into the throttle to try to feather my way around a corner or over an obstacle, the supercharger magnifies the torque being delivered to the wheels. Consequently, what should have been a maneuver executed gracefully ends up making me look like a spaz behind the wheel. TIMMAY!
You could take that $1800, put half towards the LC and half into a savings account to be applied towards the purchase of a supercharger down the road. When you get another $1800, put another half towards the LC and half towards the supercharger. By that time, you'll have enough to buy a supercharger and will have had fun wheeling your modified LC.

FYI- A full Old Man Emu suspension for an FJ-62 is 2 Grand in PARTS alone. ARB's for the FJ's are more expensive than the 8" and 7.5" diffs.
Bow down and start chucking the green into the Money Pit.

If I still had that job, the 4Runner would have new tires, the '83 would have a lift, tires, bed, and at least a rear locker. Being unemployed for 5 months kind of put a damper in that. Now that I'm employed again, I could buy all those things right now, but I'd rather keep my house instead.

Finance-wise, I'm doing okay. All bills are paid off, and will officially own my 4runner outright by the end of the week, so I wouldn't be putting myself too much in debt if I went ahead with the SC.

Then call around and see how much it is going to be to install. I can't set up gears, so I'll assume you can't.
This would assume the engine and tranny are good. Also driveshafts. If you need a lift it's pricey.
Have you done anything with it yet? Get ready to bend over.
Our $4800 FJ-62 is now right up there with a 99 4Runner as far as inventment cost goes. Seats redone, new carpet, new interior parts, lots of mechianical work, heck it's 15 years old.
1973 was 31 years ago.
If I have sunk 15K into an 89 after I bought it...........
