last couple of months since toyota did my timing chain and clutch the truck has acted like the batterie was dead and would click when you turned the key then would eventualy kick the starter going. yesterday it was acting like this and thought it was the batterie again and went to jump it withmy celica (140 amp alternator and nothing. i checked the voltage before the jump and after both 12V Without the jumpers and tonight after trying my other optima it tried to turn over (fogot to mention lower 30's weather) so hooked up the jumpers again and finaly got it going. what do you all think? i have checked all the wireing and connections and each batterie has had a solid 12v charges at 14.5 whan running so the alternator is charging the batteries.

David in Germany: I had that happen last year. It is the contacts in the starter. Pull your original starter out and have it rebuilt for less than $100. In my '91, the resistance was building up so much in the starter wires that I also had to put in relay in-line so that the starter got enough "juice". Now, with both of these fixes, the truck starts perfectly again!!

site found parts ordered ( belt is tight) $100. is too much when i can do it myself for about $22.

Cool....I'm glad that you found a cheaper solution. Also, cool website.

BTW, the $100 I spent included the labor to remove, repair, and reinstall the starter. If you can save the $78 by doing it yourself....that's cool. I didn't have a long enough extension to remove one of the nuts holding the starter.
