Dude, like I said, I sell insurance. Been doing it for 7 yrs so far. If you need to ask any questions, let me know. But if anything less than a $1000 deductible doesn't make sense to you, you are probably right. Especially if you are going to invest $ into your alarms. Do that and save $ on your premium. You know your situation better than anyone else. If you ever need to file a claim, do it, that's why you pay insurance, but also make sure it's worth it.

I think most people are sadly mistaken when they talk about coked out people stealing their stuff... mostly, it's the tweakers (AKA Meth users) who steal stuff like that. recently my dad had a storage area broken into, and the tweakers stole a bunch of wiring out of a bunch of old vintage cars, and wheels, and tools, and just about every battery from each car, and they hacked off the battery terminals as far as they could reach in there. And you wonder why I don't like tweakers? Well, now you know...

BTW, Sorry about your 4Runner. It's too bad they did that, and even worse that they had to break the most expensive window on the whole damn truck. Wouldn't have been as much out of your pocket if they'd of broke that little side window in the back doors. But my solution for that would be to bait them...as in put something valuable inside your rig, and camp out for a night of two, and if they show up, maybe introduce them to your "friend".......you're from Texas, you've gotta have a "friend".....

Wehn i first got my truck there was 0 reason anyone would break into it and even if they did, like now a lower deductible would not have helped. BUT now that i am starting to put some $$$ into my truck i am bginging to wounder if it is worth it for a lower deductible. Will my insurance cover all the stuff in my truck that they steal? i have heard differnt things. After i redo it will they cover my radio and all my tools? If so then it might be worth it.

Yeah, whoever stole this stuff didn't know how to pick a good system. They will be lucky to get $75 for the sub and amp. And seeing as they don't even know what brand the sub is that would be luck. The tools is where they got lucky, but that won't bring much either. Mabey another $75 at a pawn shop. Just enough for another hit. It was more than 1 guy so split that up and it just ain't much.

Yeah, only window more expensive is the windshield but you can't break that real easy. I do haev to say that i am surprised that the rear window with the tint and heater is only $230 installed through USAA partner severice.

I actually thought about camping out with it, with the rear window out and park it on the street and just wait to interduce them to my friends (I AM in Texas, i have more than 1 ). Only problem was that seeing as 90% of the people in my area are old interducing them to my friend would have surely cuased 3 - 4 heart attacks and wet beds all the way up and down the block. Not to mention changing everyones mind about me being a nice calm guy. but i have thought about it

Anything that is physically attached to your veh will be covered by your auto policy. Eg: radio attached to dash attached to vehicle. Subs can go either way, that's also why I bolted mine down, for proof. Otherwise, your personal property (tools, clothes, i-pod, CDs, laptop, etc) is covered under your (or parents) homeowners/renters policy. That is a whole other deductble though. It IS covered, but like I said, another deductible and usually lowest on homeowners can be about $500-$1000 so it may not even be worth it.

Good infomation. I guess that means that all my new stuff is being bolted down for sure. Only way i would feel good about getting any kind of nice system back there again anyways.

I work for USAA and I hate to sound like I am at work, but if u get a chance, go to our website and see what the lower deductible would cost you. Usually not a drastic difference. Something else to keep in mind, if you have more than one vehicle insured and they both got damaged would you have $2000 to cover both deductibles? That happened to my sister, they broke into her husbands truck (mentioned above) and then her new car got hail damaged and the deductibles were @ $1000 x2

Well, we can agree to disagree on the deductible. Personally, I enjoy having zero worry about cost out of my pocket. I drop the rig at car toys and they take care of the rest.

hahaha that is why you go for the knees after a few swings to the head if they start to run.

Yeah, i would not mind having a $0 deductible either. But depending on what it covers and if my rates increase if i do claim on it it just ain't worth it sometimes. I am going to call my insurance and ask these questions and depending on the awnsers i think i will be lowering it some.

Oooooowwww sorry about all that.

Also, wouldn't listen to those "holier than thou's" spouting the "it had break into me written all over it." That all just seems mean, and none-to- accurate. My rig was completely boring on the outside, and the addicts broke into it on a regular basis when I lived on the West Coast.

My insurance company gives me one free window a year (State Farm) and believe me I've used it.

Finally, skip the "laying in wait" theme, as satisfying as it might seem. That's called premeditation, especially after all these postings (!)

LOL, as i said before i ain't going to actually do it. But i wil have cameras installed and a security system where if someone trys it agian i WILL be out there in under 30 seconds.

Plus where i live a car alarm WILL be noticed, i give anyone in my truck when it goes off 20 - 30 seconds TOPS before some one sees then and with the light right next to it they can be sen nice and clear. plus my camera will see them.

If they try it again it won't be the same as last time. Although this time i also hope to have everything hidden well enough that they don't want to.

Theives suck, I had to chase some down with my .40 to get my motorcycle back (they were pushing it after ramming a screw driver in the ignition to unlock the steering), needless to say they ran, left the bike, and never tried again. Now that I'm in a house, everything gets parked in the garage. If a meth-head is stupid enough to break into my garage when I'm home, I solve his addiction in 1 painful step.

Sorry to hear about the damage to your rig.

So sorry to hear about this kind of stuff man. its something i worry about every time i park. Ive got two twelves in the back of my 4runner. I usually park with the back of the car in at night, inches away from the garage door so they wouldn't have a lot of room to work with or room to open the door. Plus the box weighs 80 lbs so it'd be nearly impossible for one person to lift it out of the window and difficult for 2 or 3. My gated community provides protection from major break-ins and car jackings but not from kids opening it at night and stealing whatever is visible when you leave it unlocked.

Why would you leave it unlocked? lol

And whoever did mine hd some power on him. When they broke the window they hit it so hard the cut the metal around it and bent the heck out of it! The window repair guy coulld not belive it. and my tool chest weighed at least 125lb. I had a hard time getting it out of the truck when it was open, much less through the window.
