Sorry to hear about your loss.
A backup battery alarm was mentioned, this is the one I have that goes along with my alarm system.
http://www.caraudio-caralarms.com/515R.html

It will power your alarm and it has its own siren that will wail until it dies.

someone was breaking into my brother in-law's truck one night, I tapped on the bed with a baseball bat and the guy whipped around and swung a floorjack handle at me. I got a few good blows to his head with a Louisville Slugger. He ran with me swinging right behind him. I got a few blows to his shoulders. He jumped headfirst into an open window of a getaway car waiting. The cops nearly filed assault charges on me.

thats what i dont like about the justice system. if you defend your property by physically hurting the thieves, they can turn around and SUE you, and WIN most of the time! and the law never questions what they were doing there in the first place.. its so messed up. but having louie as a very close friend can and DOES come in handy.

that'd be a pretty satisfying feeling - cracking a bat over the head of a junky stealing stuff out of your ride. i'm not that violent but having had things stolen out of various vehicles in the past it's a mental image that brings a smile to my face.

that is true, I know that there are stories of people getting there car broken into just for the spare change on the floor or whatever
My friend has his car broken into, and all they took was his faceplate and change out of the ashtray, they dug all through his car, everywhere but the center console, which had a like $100 just sitting there from my buddy's grandmother or somthing (it was christmas time)
and cocaine is a hell of a drug.....

Dude that sucks, I dunno what I'd do if I came out and found my 4Runner like that.

First off that you all for your support! After this I said I am working too hard and just took the day off and went paintballing. Had a blast and got my aggressions out. I don’t usually brag but I was FEARED out there today, every guy out there was the one that stole my stuff and trashed my truck.
Yeah I looked at the damage and I am not even thinking about using the insurance, I don’t have any claims or tickets on my policy and I want to keep it that way.
It was locked but I am guilty of leaving things visible. I have been wanting to get my cargo box in for awhile but just never got around to it. It will be a dozy when I do early next year!
No offense taken. I know that my truck said “Rob me” all over it. I was never really worried about it as the neighborhood I live in is one of the lowest crime rates in the area. And if it had not been for Halloween kids I bet it would not have happened. There is no one in my area that would know or care what I had. And I always make sure that I turn off the radio before getting to close to home (where I live it is pretty obvious if someone follows you. But then they can come back later and see my truck as there is no room in the garage.)
I already have some ideas as to how I am going to do it next time and it wil be 100% stealth. And if someone wants my stuf they will have to work at it. I know there are 2 sides to this but where I live is about the only place that they could really hit it and I am going to get a 2-way security sytem so my 12 guage will be able to get to it if they try to. Or if I am out my .45.
I think they did get scared off, more stuff could have been taken but they left my CD changer and a screw driver they were using. So I think they had to quit early.
I have considered lowering my deductable but it will cost XXX and when I was setting it up it was not worth it. Although now that I am modding it I think I will look into changing my policy some. Any other tips for coverage on my stuff?
The Cop that wrote it up wrote it up a little different then usual and a detective is supposed to call my in a few days for any more info I have and he said he is going to have the lab look at the screw driver. They are also going to look out at the pawn shops for me. So there is a chance they could find them although very small.
See PM. And yeah the tearing up my rear end and my tool box is what really had me ticked. Like just today I needed something and went to the back and opened it up to find the box missing!! Made me mad all over again!
Thanks, I will make it through, but my SC will have to wait some more… :-(
Thanks for the info! I was wondering what that was, I will clean it out while I am in there. I saw it and could not for the life of me figure out what it was! I have never had a sunroof before so that never even crossed my mind.
I will look into engraving my tools this time I think, good idea.
I have though about backing up but it is a pain with my tilted driveway and where you see it in the pictures is where it was. About ~5 feet from the road. It is on a corner and there is a light above it so I am surprised they tried it. I think I will park further up from now on though.
Ouch, that would SUCK! Without a 2 way alarm I would consider just leaving everything open and hidden. But if I have the 2 way then there is never any time where I am to far from it to not be able to greet the robber with a nice purrty .45. and if I make it hard enough then I will have time to get to them. If I was to go someplace that I was worried about my truck I would just take something else.
Careful! You will shoot your eye out! Lol
Get the real deal, it works much better! And thanks for the kind words.
Once again all well noted. Everything will be WELL hidden next time and I think I will bolt it down with a 2 way security system to let me know so I can go check it out. But good info, I will keep it in mind for sure.
Yeah, I got a few guns around that will drive some instant fear into ANYONE. This is one reason that I am wanting to know how secure the stock engine immobilizer really is. Will it really stop someone or is it a joke?
Interesting idea, I will have to check that out, I have to say that I am VERY pleased with USAA and so are my parents as they have used it all there lives as well.
Yeah, I will be putting more $$$ into my fronts this time around (was going to replace them anyways) and might do without a sub but most likely I will make some kind of stealth enclose where even if you look you won’t know if it is there (the ideas are already flowing)
LOL, so true.
That is along the lines of what I am thinking but yet different. Mine will be more “useful” Desing plans and help will be posted soon I am sure, lol)
Thanks, I plan on getting all those goodies on my truck, (I will post help/write up page in that section I am sure). I am thinking about finding a good security system installer around that will do a good job or do it myself if I think I can. I will also be installing a camera on my house watching my cars from now on.
I don’t want to think about what I would have done..
I had a friend that had this happen. Guy robber her house and he then sued her for getting locked in for a week. The world is screwed up!
I was thinking the same thing! :-))
I can think of a lot more things I would like to do. But going paintballing got most of them out. lol
Nice, looks similar to what I am planning.
This is what REALLY sucks. Don’t know if I mentioned it in the first post but my dads car got his window broken out as well the same night. And for what you ask? A 2 liter bottle of COKE!!!!!! Now that is just low. It is costing him $200 to replace the window! This is one reason the cop is making a bigger deal out of this case I think.
I can think of a few things I would do I I caught the guys doing it. As for what I would do when I find it, you don’t want to know. Ladies read this board too.
Been there done that.
Thanks for the support everyone!
Damn dude, I'm really sorry to read about this. This is one of those few things that really infuriates me. Crazy word, I know, but it's true. You can definitely get that stuff cheaper than your deductible. Don't even bother with that. I sell insurance and it will be more hassle to file the claim and then be told it's less than your deductible. Just browse CL and you'll find some great deals. In a week, it'll all be old news and you'll be more prepared. I'm working on getting a kill switch or 2 in my truck and I put a sub in there and put 6 (yes, 6) bolts in it to hold it to the floor. The sub box is all sealed so no subs are showing and if anyone tries to steal it, they will be in for a lot of work and will most likely destroy the box while trying to steal it. That's really all you can do. Make it hell for them to steal your junk.
that sucks dude, I hope that they rot in hell.
I've always found that the best way to keep people from breaking in to your car is to not give them any reason to look twice at your ride (ie, don't have a really nice/expensive stereo, don't leave tools or any other expensive looking stuff in your truck, or in sight anyways, I am totally guilty of doing all of this at one point in time, i think that there is probably at least $100 worth of tools in my truck as I type), but: I don't think they will risk jail or worse to get my god-knows-how-old kenwood tape player!
not to be a douche or anything, and I'm not trying to dog you on your 4runner, but just look at it man, how could they pass that up? You've got the stickers, the fancy tail lights, the little fog/backup lights, that is the stuff they look for, because those kinds of cars/trucks are more likely to have a bunch of stereo stuff they can jack,
You might as well be driving a honda civic with a body kit and decals all over it saying what brand of stereo equipment you have, and a "powered by acura integra GSR" windshield visor sticker,
I feel bad for you dude, i truly do, my old room mate had his civic broken into almost once a month the whole six months I lived there, and the whole time my old truck was sitting right next to it with a stereo worth 3x as much as his, but it wasn't visible, and my truck was much harder to break into.
I guess that the best way to look at it is, at least they didn't steal the whole truck, and total it or something, I know people who have had that happen more than once
And for the guy who said that they knew what they were doing-
If they knew what they were doing, the 4runner woud have either been gone, or sitting on the ground with anything that could be removed taken off (ie all of the lights and other stuff that would be incredibly easy to remove and sell) I saw some video years ago that showed 4 or 5 guys with out power tools take a car down to almost nothing in less than 2 hours, scary
These were probably just stupid kids (they probably only knew not to open the doors from a previous experience where the alarm went off) trying to get some free crap
You should get your deductable lowered, $1000 is too much, I've always done $500, just a thought
I'm sorry for the long post, and I hope everything gets better soon, and if you ever want to know how easy it is to break into your car, just lock the keys in there and call a locksmith, I've never seen one take longer than two minutes to get a door open (on a toyota truck anyways
) I think that the last time I had to call one, it took him about 3 seconds, and I am not exaggerating at all, it took me longer to write down my insurance policy number and sign the reciept (next time I lock the keys in there, I will be sure to grab my stopwatch first)
If you catch the guys, be sure to rip thier b@lls off

Man I feel for you...I had my Jeep broken into when I was in school and had my Alpine stolen, but what really ticked me off was that they broke the window and tore up my dash. Thus I know how you feel and I would not wish that on anyone.
I have a question...I know you are in DFW...but where....the reason I ask is the lady across the street from my Grandmother had her car stolen out of her driveway in broad daylight....yesterday NOV 1st. Just curious as to what neighborhood you were in.

That is the drain for your sunroof. There are actually 4 total, one through each "A" pillar, and one through each quarter panel. If you take your pass side trim off, you will see one there.
Its actually a good idea to clean those out from time to time so they dont get clogged and cause your sunroof to leak.
Sucks about your 4Runner too. If anyone broke into my babies, i would be severely pissed.

keep checking the pawn shops for your tools and call them.
I got a engraver and put my name on every tool I have, when I lived in the city I alway backed into the driveway that way the back door and window where not as easy to access.
how far from the side walk was your truck?

I had a friend that did this with he jeep. He bolted down EVERYTHING, there was really nothing you could steel, becuase it was all bolted or welded down... after thieves tried to steal his things and were unable too, they smashed EVERY window and lit it on fire.
It was a total loss. We thought it would be funny because they would not be able to steal anything... turns out not so much.

I don't know what else to say dude rather than I'm sorry, at least everybody here understands where you're coming from.
Me and my 12 gauge will be on the lookout if any of the culprits decide to head east
well i don't own a 12 gauge, but my airsoft rifle and i will be on the lookout, how about that? those things can poke a friggin eye out

as far bolting everything dowm, I'd rather they take what they want and get the he!! out. I 'd rather them do this then sit there destroying my truck trying to get something out of it. My friend locked he faceplate in the glovebox and they destroyed the dash to get into that glovebox to see what was locked inside. Afterwards he wished he left it unlocked so they could have just opened it.
i really hate thieves. someone broke into my moms old truck, a,d probably got scared at the last minute or something. when we went out in the morning to start it (a 1981 yota 4wd) the window was smashed, the cassette player was gone, and the key cylinder was just about out. the cops said something must have scared the thief away, cuz he/she just about had the truck. oh yeah, dash was shredded too around the stereo. a thief tried getting my truck last time i visited my cousin. we were chillin in his room using a certain green illegal substance (yeah yeah, lemme alone) and suddenly heard a crash. so we looked out the window, and lo and behold, a guy was openin the door of my truck. i grabbed his 50 cal, and went out there to meet him. guy didnt even here me comin up until i cocked it back. he turned around and probably had his life flash before his eyes. i know i would if i had that big of a gun pointed almost point blank at me. anyway i held him there until the cops got there. parents pressed charges, and i got a new stereo and a tint. (this wasnt with my yota, was with the chevy, sorry to clear that up now). x2 on checking pawn shops, good luck
Yeah, Everything in my Jeep is now easily removable...if I take my hardtop off I remove my rear speakers, faceplate, CB etc.
The best thing to do is make it stealth. In my 4Runner I have over $600 in just my front and rear component speakers (Focals). They all have the stock grills and my Amp is hidden under my seat. I adapted the stock head unit to work with everything and it sounds great. My CD changer is under the seat and my iPod hides in the console. Everything looks stock, but doesn't sound stock.
Subs are hard to hide in a 4Runner though....so I just spent more on my front and rear speakers, and made them all 6 3/4"....they have such great base response, you would think I had a sub. Also, if you have alot of "Bling" on your car, or like to play your sub real loud...you will be a target. I have heard of thieves hearing a system bumping and following the person to see where the live.
As far as alarms go...you need a glass break sensor, a back up battery (for the Alarm), and a hood lock for your best chance. Alarms will not protect your stuff inside if they have any time at all and can disable it...they will save your vehicle if the ignition kill is installed correctly. Alarm heads and ignition kills must be hidden, undetectable, and appear to be part of the factory wire harness to be effective and hard to disable or bypass.

what i am wondering is your windows look tinted from the glass on the floor or is it just me?? they must have known something was in there? i got my windows tinted for the same reason.
also i see your amp is still there? why wouldnt they just snap those cords and grab that too? i feel like it might be someoen who saw what was in your car, maybe they were driving by and you had it open working on it or something.
car alarms are great, but they cant scare everyone.
i agree that it looks like someone mauled your truck
WAS NO ONE ON THE STREET AROUND/ HEARD WHAT HAPPENED???

And that is my CD changer that they left along with a flat head screw driver, my guess is that they got scared off and didn?t finish it. As for them knowing what was there, I have no idea unless it was someone that just happened to see in there while I was working on something. I make sure not to really play my radio around my house and no one knows what I have back there except a few friends. Either they got lucky or they saw it some day.
The alarm is more for me to know about it then to scare them off, I know that if they want something bad enough they will get it. I just want to know they are tring to. With a 2 way alarm my remote will let me know there is a problem and I can check it out.
And no, no one saw anything that night. We were up late cleaning the garage and got up early so they must have hit it fast. The lady across the street was gone that night, she is a super light sleeper and has caught 2 or 3 would be robbers in her 30+ years in that house.
I know that these guys were 100% fags, they broke my dads window for a 2 liter COKE!! I mean that is just low. $200 for him to fox over a 2 coke! gimme a break! (well not literally!)

Got the last 2 covered, the $250 deductible just not sure that it is worth it. In this case i would get a whole $100 - $200 if i was lucky. not really worth fileing a claim on the insurance for that. but i am thinking about lowering it some. Mabey $500.
