Thermostat Cover Sensor

Anyone know what the sensor is for that goes into the top of the Thermostat cover?

Thanks

I believe it is the sending unit for the temperature gauge in the dash. Be careful if you mess with it. That wire just loves to break.

It isn't hard. I can say that honestly as I fixed mine last weekend...again. This time I did it something closer to right. Push the wire end out of the plug. There is a little clip somewhere in the plug that holds it in. Take your time and try not to tear things up. Removing the black plug from the back first helps.
You can either mess around with the fitting and try to pry it apart or hunt around at a store that sells them, but you need one the exact same shape or it won't fit back into the plug. I kept at mine until I had pried it open and removed the old wire. I cut a new length of wire and crimped the fitting around it. Just for good measure, I soldered it as well.
Pull the added wire through the plug and either use a weatherpack connector or solder and heat shrink tape it. I can get a pic of mine if you like, but it really is a pretty easy job.

It is NOT the sending unit for the guage in the dash; that is located behind the thermostat at the base of the valve cover by the #3 intake.

I believe it is the temperature sender for the computer.
