I've been going back and forth on whether or not I want a pair, so I'll ask the experts.

I know they really serve absolutely no purpose except for looks, and I like the way they look. I guess the reason I'm not sure is because I know a lot of people get brush guards and love them at first, but eventually get rid of them. Does this eventually happen with the tail light guards too?

i'm considering a pair too, and perhaps fabbing them if my neighbor could be coerced with brews into helping with the welding. the price for the ready-made ones is crazy -- like $150? i do enough off-roading that i think it may be worth it for more than just the looks, though i think they really do look beefy and sharp. i bashed my whole back end last summer, and lucked out that i didn't crunch some light clusters. i say go for it, and if you find a great price, share the secret :bounce2:

they look cheesy and the finish sucks... i would make some kind of protection in a custom bumper and stay away from the cheesy guards

Yeah after searching around the site I'll have to agree man. Cheesy is the perfect word for it. Oh well, just saved myself $150.

the ones you can buy are made of really crappy material and will bend if you actually back into something, come custom bumpers have tail light guard provisions on them and htese would actually be strong

Personally I don't like the appearance at all. They would protect your lights if your out thrashing your truck but if your like me you tend to aviod such senseless damage.

jim, in terms of strength, is it just the material is weak? are they about as flimsy as a bike water bottle cage? i don't know how they even mount -- if it's in the stock holes, then yeah, i'll stay the heck away from them, since the hardware would be so light.

they're mostly for looks. and if you get them to really protect your taillights, you probably need to instead invest in some driving lessons, because you suck. I love my taillight/brushguard combo. like on bike4miles 4runner, people could say that they don't like the EURO taillights..they are just for looks also and look kinda out of place on a japanese SUV...but im sure he likes them. it just depends on the person. there is no wrong or right way, no better or worse way to customize your truck. if you like it, go for it. if not, then dont waste your time with something u dont like looking at.

mine came with taillight guards (ie free) and i took em off after a couple months.

they were just awkward and i didnt like the way they looked... not to mention one of them was pretty rusty.

yikes, that things ugly as sin, but yea very protective.

as an fyi, when i removed my taillight guards, i noticed one of them actually cracked one of my taillights. the PO must have hit something with them or something... but they leaned right into the glass.

If you ever bump into anything with that grill guard the same thing will happen.

I have my guard and tail guards just for looks. I like them.

If I could do it again, I would have gone for an ARB bumper, but would have STILL purchased the tail light guards.

See, those tail light things never made sense to me. It seems to me that if you hit anything hard enough to break a tail light, then they'll just end up bending the sheetmetal instead. That sounds more expensive to fix than new lights.

ive had small bumps with it into the brick wall in front of my parking spot before.. thing doesnt move an inch.

yea they cause damage, but only in damage-causing situations... like if damage were to be inflicted anyway.

my bumper would have some welts on it now from the brick wall if not for that guard....
