Tail Lights

I was just wondering if anyone knew if the tail lights on a 89-95 Pickup we the same as on a 1995 4runner. I wanted to do something with the taillights and I cant find anything for a 1995 4runner. Any suggestions?

not much is available in terms of 2nd gen 4Runner taillights... all black and slotted covers, and the very rare clear taillights. you can paint them also...

that's it though.

The clears are rare indeed. I think they look good on black, dark blue, and white runners.

Yea, they are really really rare. I have only seen 2 pairs in the last year on ebay and I check every cuple weeks. They sold for over $200. In 2001 when I got mine they were only $40-60.

I used to have clear tail lights on my 4runner. I painted the tail lamp part red and kept the turn signal clear. It looked awesome and is legal (I think). The red paint I used didn't hold up that great and people started asking me why I had pink tail lights. So, I took them off, but haven't gotten around to repaint them yet.

I found them on ebay about 2 years ago and paid $45 for the pair. Other than that, I don't know where you could find them at.

Picture of painted tail lamps attached. Click thumbnail for larger color pic.

Well, that's it. Have fun all.

BTW, the difference between the truck and 4Runner tail lamp is that the truck has the reverse lamps in the tail lamp. The 4Runner has the reverse lamps next to the license plate, or mounted farther apart on the door if you have a tire carrier. I believe the Hilux Surf has the reverse lamps on the tail lights like the trucks do (not 100% sure on that though).

Have fun.
