Tacomas with 8.4" rear diffs ...cool elocker option

This was not available for Tacos 2 months ago.....anywheres in the world....not even in Australia.....a real 100% traction device for offroad Tacos
I'll let you all know how this goes when I get my first request to do the Harrop elocker for the 8.4" diff common to the the Tacos and a slew of T100's and Tundras.
This should be big news for the Taco guys. A cool option if you are not fortunate enough to have the Toyota factory 8" elocker option.

see the 3rd pic down on this link......

Somebody send me your 8.4....these need a write-up SOON

Thanks, Ken.

The first one off the production line is now in my 2002 Tacoma. We have delivered several others and are taking orders for these babies. The guys at Torfab in Everett, WA jumped in with both feet to make this happen in a hurry. As always, strong technical skills together with great customer service made for an excellent experience.

The very first Harrop Eaton ELocker model # A13457 - 12 bolt, 8.4" traction solution. Selected high points from the install gallery, with more to follow. Jump to the bottom to see how an 80/100 Series OEM 2-locker switch is fit to replace the clock, which I cannot see anyway.

The 2-locker switch will soon support a front Harrop model # A11167.

These Tacoma / Tundra Harrops are in production and we are taking orders for January delivery. Tell your friends and stay tuned!

Ward,

I'll post a few pics of the 1st requested 8.4 install that I get.
I did some checking on the traction options available for the 8.4" and they are few.

There is the ARB or TJM air locker but if you don't like air then that's out.
No Spartan......No Aussie....just a Lockright. And if you don't care for Lockrights then that's out.
There is 1 decent LSD (Kazuma) but if limited slips is not your thing.....

This 8.4 Harrop e-locker option makes it a game changer. 8.4 guys used to be jealous of us Tacoma guys that had the 8" factory elocker....
Now it's gonna be other way around. I'm a little jealous that they have a stronger 8.4 with the girdle and bigger bearings AND a selectable elocker.
A locker that can be engaged in low range or high range or even in 2wd.

Thanks, Ken -
There is UPS package coming your way - will go in a T100 when you have time to set up the carrier.

Also, there are Harrops on the way for later Tundras, front and rear!!

God bless America! Russ from Colorado stepped up to the plate and sent me his gutted(cheaper shipping for him) 8.4" 3rd.
It's possible that Russ is the first in Colorado to get one in the 8.4 rear diff.

He lightened the load for shipping by removing the ring and pinion and the Truetrac.
He sent the pretty much bare 3rd with the flange and solid collar....he forgot to send
the 12 special flange ring gear bolts but they are on there way usps.

# 13457 elocker....game changer for the 8.4

Having all the right shims makes life easier.

About 3 amps draw....4 measured ohms with this old analog Radio Shack meter.

Now to send it back to Russ.

pardon the ignorance... would an '08 5.7L Tundra limited have the 8.4 and be a candidate for this?

Smile Harrops for Big Tundras

The Tundras went with bigger ring gears/diffs from 2007 on in the 5.7 - 10.5" rear and 9" clamshell front.

BAD NEWS is that Harrop does not currently have a solution for either the bigger/badder/lager Tundras as above, or the new 8.75" rear axle in certain 2016 and later Tacomas.

GOOD NEWS is that they are working on development of these units. No ETA but we have found them to be accommodating and pretty darn quick. From the time we sent a 8.4" Tacoma/early Tundra diff and carrier to them, they were in production within about three months.

Stay tuned, but be optimistic.
