i own a 1998 tacoma and it has the 2.7 liter 4cyl and is running ruff. the other day i went to take off and the engin was studdering for a split second but the enging light didnt come on it just was runnig real ruff and it dose this like 70% of the time. any one have any ideas on what it could be???

 

It could be the K&N filter causing your problem. Oil from the filter will get on your MAF sensor and make your truck run like sh$t. Clean the sensor with electrical contact cleaner but don't touch it as it is fragile.Have you done a tune up lately(plugs)?

 

i never even thought about that but that makes alot of sense well ill go ahead and try cleaning the air sensor and tekll u what happens thanks! and yes i just had a tune up on it about 5000 miles ago.

 

Its a common problem with the guaze type filters. They let in alot of dirt, and if its over oiled that will also gunk up the sensor. I han one on my Talon Tsi and when I cleaned the filter I could always see dust/dirt in the intake tube. I use paper filters with an open airbox now.

 

it sounds like the same thing happens to you when my misfires go borrow a code reader and find out why the check engine is comming on....my truck only misfires like every few weeks so it doesnt have to happen all the time
