Tacoma Limited slip or Spool? Help me decide

I have been trying to decide weather to go with a full spool or limited slip on the rear of my 97 Tacoma 2wd.The truck is mostly driven on road but only about 15 miles a day or so and is mostly a recreational vehicle. But I need optimum traction when I do go off roading and do not have a large budget for a locker. What does my Toyota community suggest?

Limited slip, your on the road all the time. And a spool will eat up your tires

you should be able to do a e-locker swap for about the same price as a LSD, maybe a bit more.

the spool will eat tires up, and drive you nuts

LSD can be nice on pavement but its still not going to give you much more in the way of offroad performance, just swap in an E-locker third and be done with it.

elocker swaps dont fit this criteria. a spool is just paying for the same thing as what a welded diff will do. pull your 3rd out, find a buddy that knows how to weld, and weld those gears together. being a 2wd pickup that will never see a drop of snow, minimal weight in the rear, you wont notice the increased wear as long as you frequently rotate your tires.

...weld it. less fuss, more traction.

weld it?

That would prove, on a DD, to be a little extreme don't you think? A lockright would be a fairly inexpensive, positive locking diff, and cheaper than a LSD or replacing the R and P (due to premature wear from welding or miswelding). I have friends that are really into the american hotrod thing and they wouldn't dream of running a spool or lincoln on the street, even just tooling around. One u-turn in a hurry could pop the ring or chew the bananas out of the tires.
