Guy at the a/c shop told me a while back that if the fan clutch isnt working properly it can affect the a/c system. The fan clutch on Toys are serviceable. You can take them apart and add 2 tubes of the silicone gel availible at the dealer parts counter. I did this on my old 22re truck and it wasnt a hard job. Cost about $20.

I wish my truck had the little side windows that open out and "scoop" the air in. I'd rather have those in there and all the windows open while cruising down the highway rather than have the A/C on. Seems that only the Ford trucks at my job have them.

Old 4Runners did, mine did!

I used those alot because my a/c didn't work on my Runner, thanks to good old papa when he gave me the Runner, he never used the a/c alot because he thought it "saved gas" In the process, the seals ran dry and busted on me, when I went to go use it.

Mine s like a freezer box. I actually have to introduce some warm air to keep it from getting too chilly.

Oh yeah, I used that A LOT on my drive up to Pismo... unfortunately, I got stuck in a lot of traffic so the heat was incredible. Once I cleared Santa Barbara and the traffic disappeared... aaah, how refreshing!!!

Might have to do with your location. Don't these sorts of A/Cs work better in dry climates (akin to a window box unit)? Someone correct me if I'm wrong; I may have gotten it backwards. But both you and 96 runner have ice-cold A/C; you're in CA, he's in AZ.

Roger:

I'm in the heart of SoCal and my AC still sucks!

You might be right, but right now our humidity is anywhere from 30 - 70% depending on the "Monsoon."

I also have electric fans, which may be drawing in more air over the condensor and compressor.

As a comparison, my other 96 is also ice cold. Even better than my green 96 in fact. Strange indeed.

Christian check these things as it may be one of them:

1) Misadjusted heater valve,
2) Under or Over charged system (yes overcharging is bad for the system)
3) Condensor had debrie stuck in between the fins.

Thanks Mohamed, but there is nothing wrong. I was just providing some data to the other guys explaining how both my 96's are ice cold - but the white 96 is more so.

My 01 prerunner is cold enough, I would say adequate. My friends 02 GTI and my girlfriends Impreza gets colder. Yeah, you have to put it on circulate.
