Question Tacoma or 4Runner ????????

I am seriously considering getting rid of my 4runner and getting a 98 Tacoma V6 5spd 4x4 and need some input. I love my runner i just hate its performance and my mileage is getting up there too. I am planning on getting a tacoma with around 80,000. Has anyone else here owned both, and if so would you suggest this change. I have thought of regearing but i think if i do that ill have a very hard time selling my 4runner with many mods. I would love a 96-99 4runner with a 5spd but cant find em anywhere but ebay around me. I guess im rambling now. just would like some input on which generation people tend to like better.

It really depends on what you want out of it. I own both, a 96 4Runner 4x4, and a 97 Tacoma 4x4. Both have their jobs, The 4Runner is much more comfortable to drive daily than my Tacoma, but my Taco kicks ass offroad, and it get's the looks and honks and thumbs up when i drive it.

I've got both also and would recommend the 4Runner if you don't really need the truck bed. The Tacoma's just don't ride as well.

I didn't have a Tacoma, but I had a extended cab Ranger before my 4Runner. If you plan on taking more than one other person with you in the truck, it is going to be a tight fit! I hated taking 2 or more people when I had that truck, everyone was uncomfortable!!

What do you want to do with it? If you find yourself in need of a truck bed often (or even occasionally), you may find the Taco to be perfect. Contrariwise, if you like to be able to haul a lot of people around, stick with the Runner.

I have a Taco and have no regrets; I love having the bed and I hardly ever need to carry more than one other person (nor do I really want to).

I looked and drove both and I'm glad with my choice since I needed the interior room.

Go with the 4runner for ride and comfort and then either buy or rent a small trailer when you need to haul loads home from Home Depot/Lowe's. You'll have the best of both worlds then.
