T -stat sealant, and or cleaner neccessary?

I'm putting in a dual stage t stat in my 86 22re, I was wondering if I could just wipe of the surface and put the new gasket on or if I had to clean it and reseal it with rtv cleaner like my haynes manual said.

You only need the gasket with the t-stat, no sealant needed:
