Synchronizers... t-case

I have a 2000 Tacoma with the conventionnal 4wd selector(non-TRD). When the truck was new, I had no problems shifting from 2Hi to 4High up to 50 MPH. And then I got the charger and the fuel mods... I got addicted with flooring the truck at stop lights, and at low speeds to smoke thoses rice burners yeah! I had much less axle wrap this way and in the end, my tires were in better shape... I have major traction issues in 2wd.

Now, It grinds when I shift from 2hi to 4hi at more than 30 mph...

Anything I can do to help this cause? other than taking it easy?

Anyone replaced their synchronizers in their t-case?

Are you saying that your were launching the truck, on dry pavement, in 4WD? That certainly can't be good for the truck. I don't know the answer to your problem, but someone here might.

Um, unless theres something I don't know about the newer transfers, there are none. You might want to take a close look at your front driveline, you probably broke something. Also might want to put your right foot on a diet...

Yes! But only maybe 10 times. Toyota drivetrains are STRONG!!! But now I don't do it anymore.

I'm pretty sure it's a synchronizer in my t-case. I've seen the diagrams in the toyota repair manual.

Everything sounds good and solid. It's just that I have to go slower before engaging in 4wd. The cause of this problem is not launching in 4wd, it's because I would always play between 2 and 4 high. Same thing in a tranny as slaming the gears, never double clutching, shifting to redline...all the time. After a while, you get a crunch when you shift, especially between 1 & 2, and 2 & 3. That means your synchros are worn.

Let me get this straight. You drive a supercharged Tacoma, have a lead foot, like to smoke ricers, launched no less than 10 times in 4WD (in the past)...

and now you have transfer case problems.

A used transfer case would be your most econmical fix. By the time you tear apart your existing case, labor alone will set you back a pretty penny. I have seen these x-fer cases on ebay. You could check there.
