Supercharger questions
Installed the TRD SC on my 98 Tacoma yesterday oh what a joy it is. Call it an early Christmas present to myself for the next 3 years. The install went quite smoothly, had it installed and running within 3 hours. The dealer wanted 6 hours at $72 per. Nice little $432 savings. Couple of issues - the Check Engine light came on within one mile after install, or third drive cycle. Code PO171 lean mixture bank one was the code. Plan on rerouting the 4WD vacuum line to see if that corrects it. The manual says it is related either to a vacuum leak or just the ECM learning what the hell is going on. I will check both options. Also under hard acceleration I feel a pulsing through the drivetrain which I feel may be related to fuel starvation or the factory clutch slipping due to the extra torque. The truck has just under 40k pampered miles on it, so I don't think the clutch should be the problem. One last thing, filling out my warranty card and wondering what the belt tension should be. Don't have a tensionometer to check it with. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey Seth,
I had the same code come up on my 4Runner. Jay (on this site) suggested I clean the MAF sensor. I did and it was an AMAZING difference. It was obviously dirty upon inspection. A little soap and water and all was cool.
It also fixed the "surging" or "power band" effect. My theory was that the computer was hearing knocking and retarding the timing.
Does yours go away after the revs build?
Anyway, check your MAF. Hopefully this will help.

The most common cause for that code right after a supercharger install is a improperly installed throttle body gasket. Double check the gasket and make sure it is installed poperly. It only goes in one way. Then check for other vacuum leaks.

Appreciate the help guys. I tried cleaning the MAF sensor today but the light has still returned. The surging issue seems to be gone, but I haven't gotten on the freeway today. It is most noticable when hitting the on ramps. Plan on rechecking the vacuum lines tomorrow. I'm sure the throttle body gasket is right, but its not any big deal to take off and recheck. Hopefully it is something simple. I'll keep you guys posted.
Gadget - you may remember me from about three years ago. I think we exchanged a couple of emails right after I got my last truck. There is a picture of it on your FOG page near the bottom, a white 91 4Runner.
I also recognize Corey, who had emailed me after seeing pictures on Yahoo's 4Runner forum. Our rigs were almost identical in the pictures. Glad to see some familiar faces here.
