That's a great price
The s/c is worth it, I've had mine for 2 years now, and I love it. The s/c I bought did not come with the tensioner kit, so I had to buy it separate , so that is definitely a steal

Oh my god, that is AWESOME!!!! Check this out too....

Wow! Someone who has the S/C and has NOT done the tranny and fuel mods needs to chime in and let us know their luck with it. I still don't know if it's worth it if you need another $1000-$2000 worth of mods to run it and not fry the 4Runner.

That's one reason Im not married....I don't have to ask anyone

I payed $1750 for mine but mine was used for about 3 months and came with tensioner. I like it but I actually thought it would be something alittle more. I guess it's hard for me to judge being a former Porsche owner and having a '69 Firebird with (2) four-barrel carbs and 456 posi rear. Don't get me wrong. The s/c is a nice upgrade, just not as "great" as I thought.

You don't need any other mods to make it work well. That is a fantastic price for the s/c!!!

Maybe some early x-mas gifts for some of you

Pfdaxe,
Most, including Jason B, swear that you have to do all the fuel and tranny mods or the thing will ping like crazy and fry your transmission. Others, who have 99+ models, say that it is not necessary on their late model third gens because of a different fuel mapping program. They recommend a tranny cooler, but thats it. Question is, how do you know unless you've been running a S/C for 2+ years on a 99+ Someone help us out here.

Are all of the fuel and tranny mods necessary??????

I don't have any fuel mods, but I added the Hayden Tranny cooler. I have never experienced any pinging since I had my s/c installed....it is worth it.
I just bought it and had it installed..then dealt with the wife

Dukestr,
How long have you had it on your 4Runner? Can you estimate the number of miles also. I think it is kind of a crap shoot. Some experience no problems and others have to do all kinds of crap to run it. Never had ANY pinging at all? Thanks dude.

We've seen the same thing with the Tacoma's. The older ones seem to need the fuel upgrades a lot more than the newest generation.

I have about 30K on my 2001 since the supercharger install. I played with the fuel mods for a while, but went back to stock fuel delivery. The mods were too much hassle and it doesn't ping unless I force it to in stock configuration...

For those who are looking to carry it in and have the dealer do the install, check with your dealer first... many will not install carried in parts for liability reasons...

I have stock fuel delivery with intake mod and tranny cooler. Nothing else. I do have slight ping in mid-range when I put my foot down heavy. I installed the tranny cooler because of living in the desert where it reaches about 150 in the summer I may install some Iridium plugs to see if that helps with the slight ping. I installed my s/c this past summer. Another reason I may have a slight ping is that every gas station around here only carries 91 octane as their premium fuel.

although I did check out romania parts for the shipping to Hawaii, it would be almost 100 for shipping here!!!!!! Sometimes it sucks to live in "paradise" especially since it's an island and if the dock strike is on after mediation we're basically screwed

Damn!

That's a great price. I was thinking of selling mine for like $1500. Kinda screws the used market, eh?

BTW I've had my SC (first gen) on my 99 4Runner since it was new. That was 70,000 miles ago. No fuel upgrades. Never had a pinging problem. I actually have injectors and an SAFC in my garage, but haven't gotten around to it. I'm contemplating getting a 2003.

Great deal and really makes the truck perfect.

Mike

Thumbs up TRD Supercharger

I also have a TRD Supercharger (1st Gen) when I bought my 4Runner new. It's been 30K, and I loved it. No fuel mods, or tranny mods. Just installed a Hayden transmission cooler, installed 2 step colder plugs, coolant & tranny flushed, and switched over to Amsoil ATF, differentials, transfer case couple of weeks ago. It's so much smoother now, just like new.
