no. its just how they made the speaker boxes in the back so well to fit the stock speakers. when i replaced my speakers with newer better ones than the stock ones, i noticed a big difference in lack of bass. its because the air was moving out of the box because the newer speakers didn't fit as well so i ended up using weather stripping to create a better seal and it fixed the problem. i don't know why im telling you this but yeah. just bored at work. long story short.... no

hmmmmmmmm
when i took my back pannels off i had no boxs in the back tyhere are some in the front that hold 3 1/2 speakers but i had newer speakers in back. what size speakers come stock in the rear? Guess it one more thing to add to the list of stuff for my next junk yard visit.

well thats in the second gens. 3 1/2"? i've never heard of that. maybe its just me. i thought they were 4" speakers. judgeing by your name, you have an 83? if you do i have no clue about the speaker boxes. sorry.

Yeah you are likely looking at the 4T that toyota put back there. Rip em out, add coaxials (or components) and make boxes for em. Then add some subs and a few kw to the subs and you'll be happy
