Stretched ABS Sensor Wire, Fix or Replace?
2 weekends ago I put 2.5" spacers on the front shocks on my '04 Tacoma & on the drivers front I believe I stretched the abs sensor wire & now my abs light is staying on. When messin with the steering spindle I didn't unhook the brackets for the wire & I think thats when I messed it up, I did unbolt the brackets on the passengers side though. When I had the code pulled they said it was the abs wheel sensor driver side front had high resistance.
So my question is can I just fix this, cut out the bad section of wire & replace that section only & put a shrink wrap tube over the fix; or is the wiring a special kind of wire or something & I'd be better off just forkin out the cash & buying another abs sensor wire?? I figured it was worth a try to fix it but just wanted others opinions, thanks.

Once the lift is on the wire has no length issues it was just me not thinking right(rushing because I thought it was about to rain) when I was installing it & goofed. But yea I've pretty much talked myself into tryin to repair it before buying a new one. After repairing the wire & driving the truck the abs light should reset itself if everything is good right? And if it doesn't reset on its own & unhooking the battery won't work would pulling the abs fuse out & reinstalling reset the light?

I work for a company that designs ABS (and transmission, cam and crank) OEM sensors for cars worldwide. The ABS sensor is likely an IC that draws two levels of current. As such, it probably has just two conductors running to it, input and return. A resistor in the controller will turn the current into voltage readings.
Bottom line, if you fix the two wires such that both carry current (small values, like 10 to 20 mA) with minimal resistance (small compared to 100 ohms in the controller), the sensor should work fine.
As for clearing codes, that's beyond my level of expertise.

Old post I know but I was just updating that awhile back I cut out the part of the two wires that were stretched & spliced in new wires, cranked the truck & the ABS light went off immediately. I figured that the tires would have had to roll a few rotations for the abs wheel sensors to re-read for the light to go off but that wasn't the case. Its been several months & the abs light has stayed off. Thanks to all who responded.
