Strange engine squeak

Hey guys,

Just wanted to get all of your opinions. My engine has been making a funny noise for a while now... It's just a squeak. It only does it after it's been sitting (turned off) for a while, and only when the temperature has been fairly cool, say overnight. Once started, after about 15 seconds it'll start "the squeak", and then depending on how cold the engine is, it'll go away after 3-15 minutes. It really is only audible when the truck is idling. It's not a constant noise like a squealing belt, just a squeak-squeak. It can be somewhat loud though.

Last time I had my truck in for some maintenance I told my mechanic to look at it. He pulled the idler pulley and cleaned it, we replaced all the belts (getting worn anyway) and the squeak is still there. Hard part is that it goes away after the truck warms up. It hasn't been as bad during the summer (warmer temps) but still makes itself known every morning.

Anyway thanks for your help. I take pride in having a well maintained rig, so I get a little embarrassed when odd noised are emanating from it! Can't complain too much though, besides having to replace both rear axle seals, I haven't had any issues with my rig. And I'm just under 300 miles shy of the 200,000 mile marker!

I agree, it's either the belt or an idler pulley.

I bet its either the fan bracket idler(even tho it was cleaned...its a sealed unit, so....) or a t-belt idler bearing.

Btw, I had to replace a fan bracket idler a couple years ago, on my 93, and the only place I could find one was thru toyota.....I had to sit down after they gave me the price...lol Close to $600!
