Strange 4wd issue that is pissing me off

Hello all,
Hoping I can get some help here!
2004 Tacoma TRD Off Road. 4wd has worked for years but last Thanksgiving I was installing a new RCI skid plate and I unknowingly broke the breather nipple off the 4wd actuator on the front diff. A few weeks later tried to use the 4wd but I didn't get the dash light or front axle lock. Took it in and found that water and gotten inside and fried the actuator. Replaced with a new Toyota unit and the dash light would come on so I assumed the 4wd was fixed. Tried to use it yesterday and I can hear the t-case actuator working and the dash light came on but the front wheels are not engaged. I've checked the connections as well as the breather tube and as far as I can tell everything looks fine. I believe there is a position sensor that senses when the actuator fork slides over and connects the front axles and then illuminates the dash light so I am confused as to how that light is coming on if the fork is in fact not locking the axles? Any ideas?
Thanks ahead of time!
