straight axle torque rod question?

i have the stock push pull steering and was wondering if anyone has just removed the torque rod. it really limits suspension travel and i'm going crossover soon. just wondering if anyone has tried it before i waste my time thanks

Never had push pull steering, but from what I've read on other boards when this question is asked, you need the torque rod if you drive on the road at any speed because if you brake at speed your rig will pull hard to the right (or left?) causing possible loss of control. Soooooo...pull it on the trail...put it back on for the ride home.

Don't remove it, even if you don't drive on the highway. You may need a new one the right length to go with your lift, but you need that rod to keep your steering under control, both caster and camber would change with spring movement. Steering would be merely dangerous, and braking could be disastrous. Not just a pull, but a total and very sudden loss of control. You'll still need it after you go crossover too.

i hear stories of people removing it and not having issues, but i wouldn't mess with it until you went crossover. besides, limiting travel on stock steering is better than breaking a j-arm

Yeah, well I used to see guys every day with 10" lift blocks wobbling down the highway too. Truck looked like it was suspended on jello. Just because they didnt' crash didn't make it a good idea... Never screw with safety. (If ya wanna kill yourself fine, but I get upset if ya try to take me with you...)
