straight axle???

straight axle???

i have a 86 4runner...i wanted an 85 for the straight axle but could not find one. i recently bought a 84 pickup for spare parts.. i heard you can do straight axle conversion in my 86. is this possible? what do i need to buy and do to do this swap?? any help would be greatly appreciated

Just swap the motor and body to the solid axle frame.... or take the ifs off your runner, weld in hangers and swap it that way. Easier just to swap body's and motor imo.

All-Pro Offroad is one of the many places that sell kits to do this. There is a lot of time and money involved in a SAS, so beware. Also a lot of cutting/torching/welding. Google for SAS and Toyota, or something like that, and you should find a ton of info.


What you would need:

Solid axle (with brakes, rotors, etc.)
Leaf springs
New steering (except for the original steering box on the IFS truck)
Front springs mounts for the leaves
Rear shackles & shackle mounts for the leaves
Shocks
Shock mounts
Long travel/high angle front drive shaft.
