Stero Upgrade

Is there anyway to upgrade the stock system on an 2001 Runner? I'm not looking to buy a new unit , but rather try and get better sound from what I have. Are there any direct speaker upgrades?

I am a huge fan of adding a single sub and amp to any factory system. Relatively simple to do and it makes a huge improvement.

You should be able to replace your stock spekers with some higher quality ones such as infinity reference of kappa. A 12" sub would be nice too. If you use a sealed box it won't take up much space. You have to get some kind of adapter to hook an amp to your stock head unit but it can be done.

get rid of that HU. the second i did that in my 2001, it made the stock speakers sound so much better.

but then youll want new speakers... which you should. toyota factory systems are pretty bad.

Yea, you will get more power and beter ex options with an new HU. If you get high pass crosovers you can get a lot more volume without distortion. Just cut out the frequencys lower than your speakers can produce (about 50 hz for stock speakers).
