Steering Yoke Sub-Assy - change in input shaft diameter
Hi,
What year did Toyota changed the diameter in the shaft of the steering yoke (u-joint)? Was it in MY 1999? Will the the ones from a 1998 fit a 1996?
Thanks!

Bumpity..
I'm referring to the right end of the joint in the attached pic. the input shaft from the steering column goes in there.
got the pic from the internet
Thanks!

I have swapped steering racks before on the same intermediate shaft, never swapped a column, but I don't think you are talking about swapping a column. Maybe I got lucky, or maybe its a KZN185 thing. Why not unbolt the "rag Joint" and take the half of the intermediate shaft you need to match your Rack. I am guessing maybe there is a difference between USDM and JDM.

No, I'm not swapping a column. The steering yoke on my truck has started making sounds and there's a wrecked 1998 4Runner Limited near my place so I'm thinking of getting the steering yoke from the 1998 to serve as a part replacement when the noise on mine worsens.
