Are Steering Stabilizers Worth Buying !

I was wondering exactly what the differance in stock and aftermarket. I think the aftermarket ones look cool, but do they really do much. Also which ones are the best to buy.

the stock stabilizers are very weak, do yourself a favor and replace it. You will notice the difference immediately and wish you had done the change a long time ago. As for which one, I have the Rancho but you have to use a kit to install it, OME makes a direct replacement and I believe is the most popular with the board. Hope this helps.

Yep, get the OME. You'll be happy with it.

Rack and pinion steering = no stabilizer.

Have you ever driven a little car with tiny narrow wheels, and then drive down a rocky road? The steering wheel shakes like a SOB.
I think the stabilizer just absorbs some of the jostle from when you hit rocks and curbs and whatnot, so your steering wheel doesn't jump out of your hands.

Extreme examples, but you get the idea.

Yup, it is almost identical to a shock, make life easy and help to get the 4x4 to track straight. I can't wait to get my OME kit.

Yes, they make a huge difference. Pro Comp makes a direct bolt on replacement (no brackets needed), works just as well as the higher priced brands, and has a lifetime no questions asked warranty. If it wears out in 5 years, take it back and get a new one, free.

Let me know how that one works out. It's about half the price of the OME plus I also have a $25 gift certificate. If it works just as well as the OME, I don't see any reason to spend $50 more dollars.

well i got the pro comp steering stabilizer yestarday and installed it today. it was a very easy install. it only took me about 45 minutes thanks to the tech write up on this forum. I definately think a pickle fork is a must for this job, without it i could have been working all day. I noticed a much nicer feel in my steering after the install. feels much more solid and precise(one of things you have to feel on your own vehicle to notice). I am very satisfied with the results. I dont know anyone personally with the OME stabilizer to test the differance but for the price i am very satisfied with mine. Plus with my summit racing gift certificate from my last order it was much cheaper than the OME. Thanks for the input everybody. As my wife would say another buy inspired by this forum(she hates this site). Thanks again

How is it as far as wandering? I live on a dirt road and drive a pretty good ways down it every day and after a while I get a little a tired of the steering dancing back and forth when I hit rocks...so I guess you could compare it to maybe driving over railroad tracks or something...thats what I'm interested in.

Congrats on the new mod man!

i dont know if it really compares to your situation completly but i have had a problem with my runner pulling to the right when i brake (i know they need some work but modding is funner than repairing) but anyway after i installed the stabilizer i noticed that it is pulling much less than before. the steering feels much fresher and seems to be less play in the steering. hope this helps you. i think its a good mod fairly cheap and easy.
