Steering Rack?

I took my 98 Runner to the shop a few days ago to get an alignment and they said I need a new power steering rack so there was no point in the alignment. I bought my tires used and they had about 30% tread left about a month ago when I put them on but now they are completely bald. Is there anything else i can do other than buying a rack cause that is $$$ and I need to do it very soon.
Thanks.

New "used" power steering rack and a new set of steering rack bushings.

Did you ask them what was wrong with it? Bushings bad maybe? If so, get an poly aftermarket kit for $25. Bad inner tie-rod ends? Replace those seperately. Leaking PS fluid? You can rebuild the rack with a new seal kit. Play or looseness inside the rack, then I agree with Brian's post above.
