Steering Play on a 1st Gen 4Runner

I have been experiencing massive amounts of steering play. When going at freeway speeds, I will start to drift, then to compensate I will turn the other way, but do to the play it is difficult to predict how far is enough, until you start going the other way. My girlfriend experiences the same thing when she drives it. What can I do to fix this. Can something be adjusted or do I have to replace a part??

Is this common??? :wtf:

you have IFS right?

Last time you got an alignment?

By "play" do you mean you turn the wheel a little bit and nothing happens?

Yeah I can turn the wheel for 15-20 degrees before anything happens. Yeah it's IFS. I got an alignment 6 months ago. Should still be good.

physically grab all steering components under your truck and see what has play in it. Carefully check all joints, like tie rod ends and such. Check there first.
